ABOUT ME

About me: I'm 42 and added another gherkin to our pickle party of a family. My husband Chuck, our 9-year-old Junior, our 6-year-old Everett, our toddler and I live in a town in Connecticut I affectionately call Mulletville Lite (aka my childhood hometown). My friends call me Nutjob, and they're right. In my husband's spare time he dresses up as a Viking and chases ghosts (and I'm the nutjob?). When I'm not busy working as a graphic designer, I lie in a ball in the corner.

Y,Y,Y must he enjoy shooting off rabbits so?

I've never understood why farting out loud is funny. I always assumed the inclination to fart aloud and laugh was a learned behavior—something kids (ok, boys) pick up in school or from a parent who employs the much overplayed "pull my finger" trick.

But tonight, for the first time in his little 15-month existence, when Junior passed gas...he laughed. Out loud.

I have now witnessed THE EXACT MOMENT when men begin to find farting humorous. I feel like I just saw the space shuttle take off in person or something.

And now I know: the butt explosion fascination and corresponding laughter? It's chromosomally inborn.

Oh.My.God.

Hahhahhahhah! That is SO TRUE. Xander just discovered that the other day, only it was a little more than a Rumble Down Under, and he looked at me and gave me this evil giggle.

Sarah farted in my hand the other day and then laughed like a bastard. Hopefully she doesn't keep that up, otherwise she'll never get a date to the prom.

Then again, maybe she will...

When you feel a little down,
What'll turn that frown upside-down?
Bah, bah, bah

Dr. Spock, that famous children's doctor from the forties and fifties, speculated that passing wind was probably the first joke among cavemen.

There exists a recording, heaven help us, of a World Farting Contest. My husband and son-in-law sat there laughing at it, while my daughter and I sat by, disgusted...

Yes, it's genetic! I remember when Noah was just starting to laugh at anything. We were driving down the road one day and Mitchell burped and Noah laughed. How do they know it's funny!?!?!

Oh, today must be potty humor day - Mitchell made a great joke on his own this morning and it was so cute.

It's not just boys. My 8-year-old daughter thinks farting is hilarious.

Heh. One of the many unspoken truths that didn't make it as a Dr. Seuss classic. If it were, it would be coined as:

"One fart, two farts. Green farts, blue farts." [with a lighter positioned after a generic backside as it prisms the different colors each fart could potentially be] Genuinely reminiscent of a Pink Floyd album cover.

PS. Love the new blog banner illustration... super cool.
