I took off half a day so I could go to Junior's holiday party at nursery school. The last time I took off half a day for something at Junior's school, we visited the Mulletville Lite firehouse. The fire chief took one look at our large group and remarked, "I've never seen so many parents on a kids' field trip."
That line is a good segue into an article I read over the weekend. I think it's one of the best articles I've read on parenting in a while.

Have fun! It was an interesting read even for a non-parent
It is tricky to find the balance between being there for your kids and letting them go. I know I find myself leaning over to the more involved side from time to time. We also let Turbo go more now that he's is relatively self aware.
Like the article says, some my best memories are the ones where my mom was not around.
That may be the best damn parenting article I have EVER read. Seriously. LOve it. And I totally needed that. I was feeling guilty for being gone so long grocery shopping yesterday for pete's sake!

Oh I have so much to say about this! We've totally taken the childhood out of our kids. Imagination is only activated when we do most of the imagining for them. The pendulum HAS GOT to swing back and let kids go outside and PLAY and FIGURE IT OUT and make mistakes and IMPROVE on things! We've created a whole generation that can't imagine, play or handle a crisis on their own. It's very sad.
It's also a generation that has no idea what it means to make cookies or cakes "from scratch" and not out of a box. They don't even know what it means to actually MAKE food.
Something has to be done!
